Mass. among the hardest-hit states as tick, mosquito illnesses rise

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Tuesday that the number of people who get diseases transmitted by mosquito, tick and flea bites has more than tripled in the United States in recent years.

Here’s a chart showing the overall rise in cases.

Warmer weather is seen as an important cause, according to the study in the agency’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly report.

Here are two maps provided by CDC showing the rises in diseases from mosquitos and ticks, state by state. Massachusetts is in the top quintile in terms of total number of tick-related cases and in the second quintile in terms of mosquito-related cases.
