Steven Wilmsen edits and coaches narrative journalism at the Globe. Projects have won national distinction, including from the American Society of News Editors, the Scripps Howard Foundation and Columbia Journalism School’s Dart Award. “Chasing Bayla,” about a scientist’s quest to save an endangered whale, was a 2015 finalist for the Pulitzer Prize. He co-writes a Poynter column about narrative journalism and is author of a book, “Silverado,” about President George H. W. Bush’s son Neil and a failed savings and loan where he served on the board. Wilmsen plays bluegrass fiddle, is a fair cook and has a soft spot for wild places. He was born in Texas and grew up in Colorado. He gravitates to stories about ordinary people in extraordinary circumstances.
