Miss Conduct

How do I tell wedding guests my daughter isn’t taking her husband’s name?

I don’t want any awkwardness around guests addressing packages to Mrs. So-and-so.

My daughter is getting married and not taking her fiance’s name. Is there a polite way to let people know not to address gifts to Mr. and Mrs. So-and-So? I don’t want to offend anyone.

Don’t tell people how to address gifts or cards. That’s persnickety and ungrateful. List the couple’s official names and mailing address on their wedding website, gift registry, etc. Those are good places to make it clear names won’t be a-changing.

Or did you mean you don’t want your daughter to be offended by being addressed as Mrs. So-and-So? It’s not your problem to fix if she is! A misaddressed wedding card is best taken as an innocent mistake.
