Commentator John Oliver’s monologue on Sunday’s “Last Week Tonight” took on the subject of family separations at the US-Mexico border.
The man who deserves the most blame, Oliver says, is President Trump.
“Family separation is perhaps the most emblematic moment of his presidency,” he said.
And, Oliver said, it was all unnecessary.
“We did that and not because we had to — but because we chose to,” he said.
Oliver criticized the media and citizens for forgetting about the policy enacted by the Trump administration earlier this year. It was later rescinded.
More attention was paid to a dozen children trapped in a cave in Thailand, he argued.
